Hey On-That Fans,
A few basics for keeping a resin or sofubi collection looking as good in five years as it does the day it arrives:
- Keep it out of direct sun. Vinyl and resin both fade and can go brittle with UV exposure over time — the biggest single thing that shortens a figure's life is a window-facing shelf.
- Watch the heat. A hot car, a sunroom, an attic in summer — soft vinyl especially can warp. Room temperature is fine; anywhere you wouldn't leave a candle is fine for a figure too.
- Carded pieces: decide early if you're keeping them sealed. Once a blister's opened, it's opened — if display matters more to you than resale-mint condition, that's a totally valid call, just make it on purpose rather than by accident.
- Dust is the real enemy of an open display. A glass-front cabinet or shadow box beats an open shelf if you want to keep detail work (paint apps, small accessories) looking sharp.
- Handle painted pieces by the base, not the head or an accessory — the most common damage on a well-loved figure is a repaired neck or a reglued weapon.
None of this is complicated — it's mostly just keeping figures out of sun and heat and giving them a little bit of a home. Treat them like the small-run art pieces they are, and they'll hold up.
